Hidden 20 metres below the grounds of Fremantle Prison is a labyrinth of tunnels hewn out of the limestone by prisoners in the 1890s to provide fresh water to the Prison and the town of Fremantle. With the use of emerging technologies you can explore the tunnels of Fremantle Prison through an interactive video.

This event is one of the visual outputs created by SpatialCo as part of the University of Notre Dame Australia research project – “Interpreting Fremantle Prison: Piloting 3D digital technologies to understand spatial histories of control and to inform World Heritage building management and engagement” – led by Dr Shane Burke, School of Arts and Science. Curated by Dr Robyn Creagh, the event showcases the potential of emerging technologies and provides an opportunity to explore the heritage of Fremantle Prison.

Peter Hill and Leonie Matthews formed SpatialCo, an interdisciplinary creative practice, in 2018. Their work explores the tangible, intangible and sub-tangible qualities of objects, spaces and places. Working within, and between, a technical, research and creative framework, SpatialCo uses emerging 3D technologies as a contemporary form of mixed-media image making.
