FDW

Conversation 1: Designing Design Week

with Joseph Dennis & Gabi Fountain

SAT 15 OCT | 10AM – 10:45AM

Award-winning local communications designers Joseph Dennis and Gabi Fountain were tasked with creating the FDW visual branding. Their eye-catching design reflects the city’s maritime history and includes a bespoke typeface called – guess what? – FDW Port. Join Joseph and Gabi as they talk us through the evolution of FDW’s identity and give an insight into creative collaboration.

This event is part of the Fremantle Design Week Conversations Series. Tickets are available for individual sessions, a whole day or the whole weekend.

Joseph Dennis is a designer and art director specialising in the creation and crafting of typefaces, wordmarks and brand identities. SWIM is Joseph’s independent type practice.

Based in Walyalup/Fremantle, Western Australia, Joseph runs the SWIM studio out of his living room and various local coffee shops and bars, giving the business a smart-casual feel and making sure it doesn’t get any delusions of grandeur. He is also a senior designer at For the People.

Gabi Fountain picked up her Bachelor of Creative Advertising and Graphic Design from Curtin University, and moved to London to work for the trailblazing change agency Futerra, helping redefine marketing for the eco-era.

A pandemic brought her back home, but don’t think she’s slowed down. Design, film photography, ceramics, and collage – Gabi is one of those rare sorts whose creativity easily flexes across multiple fields. An ability picked up from her days as a gymnast, no doubt. Gabi is a Senior Creative at Block, where this bio was largely stolen from.
