Internationally respected artist and designer Pierre Fouché shares his journey with contemporary lacemaking in an illustrated lecture.

With a deep respect for technique, tradition, and innovation, Pierre’s practice includes bobbin lace, macramé, and drawn thread embroidery alongside traditional fine art. These multi-skills lend beautifully to the creative approach of his classes and inspirational talks, which encourage technical design thinking as well as imaginative flair.

Based in Cape Town, South Africa, Pierre has been invited by Maker&Smith to deliver masterclasses in contemporary lace design in Perth. In 2021, he exhibited two extraordinary works at John Curtin Gallery for the first Indian Ocean Craft Triennial.

Since graduating in 2006 from the University of Stellenbosch, Pierre has presented 10 solo exhibitions, contributed to numerous international exhibitions, symposiums and been commissioned by global brands and institutions.

Notable group exhibitions include the touring ‘Queer Threads: Crafting Identity and Community’, first exhibited at Leslie + Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art, New York (2015). A recent work ‘The Burden of Excess’ asks: why is enough not enough?
